ZIEN ATTEMPT TO REPEAL MINIMUM MARK-UP STALLS

Wisconsin gas stations must keep charging at least six percent more for gas than what they pay for it. A state Senate committee yesterday refused to pass a bill that would have repealed Wisconsin's minimum mark-up on gasoline. Republican Senator Dave Zien of Chippewa Falls introduced the bill. He says it would have helped the needy. But the Senate Judiciary Committee voted it down three to two. Democratic Senator Fred Risser of Madison voted against the measure. He says the mark-up law is meant to keep big retailers from underselling mom-and-pop gas stations and driving them out of business.
