4 AREA SCHOOLS PLAN JOINT MEETING

2011 could be an interesting year for area schools.

School boards from Neillsville, Granton, Greenwood and Loyal plan to hold a joint meeting on January 13th. According to the agenda, the boards will discuss “cooperative and/or consolidation of staff, curriculum and extra-curricular activities between the schools.”

Each school will face their own unique challenges in the next several years. The most publicized are in Loyal, where two revenue cap exemption referenda have failed, leaving them faced with a massive deficit that the board has said will lead to program cuts.

Granton has always been one of the smallest districts in the state, and they continue to lose students. Greenwood and Neillsville are both operating with revenue cap exemptions that will need to be renewed in the next few years.

The joint meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Granton.
