AREA GROUPS BENEFIT FROM FARM TECH DAYS

It was a lot of work, but now the church and service groups who manned the Farm Technology Days food stands are beginning to reap the rewards.

About $192,000 worth of food was sold during the three-day farm show in July. Food committee co-chair Peggy Erickson says around 20 groups put in 5,359 total hours of service at the food tents this year. They are splitting about $90,000 in profits.

Erickson, who shares the enviable task of getting to deliver the checks, says the groups were paid an hourly wage of $16.71. For instance, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood volunteered to operate a dessert booth. They’re getting a check for $8,294 for the 494 hours they put in. The Granton Rotary put in 238 hours and is getting a check for $3,996.

There are still some outstanding bills, but organizers expect Clark County will have around $40,000 left when they close the books on Farm Technology Days 2005. They expect to make a decision as to how to use that money this December or January.
