WE ENERGIES: EXPECT 40- 45% JUMP IN HEATING BILL
Thursday, September 8th, 2005 -- 9:07 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

--Earlier in the week, we told you energy experts expected a 25- to 35-percent increase in the price of Wisconsin heating bills this winter. Well, it could be worse than that.

We Energies says they could rise by 40% to 45%, or more than $300.

Their analysts stress the forecasts are preliminary, given continued uncertainty about the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the supply of petroleum and the unpredictability of natural gas markets.

We Energies, based in Milwaukee, is the state's largest utility, with more than 1 million natural gas heating customers across the state – including here in Neillsville.

Last year, the typical We Energies residential customer spent $789 for the six-month heating season that starts Nov. 1. With Wednesday's forecast, that customer could see a six-month heating bill of more than $1,100 this winter.
