IMMIGRATION LAW WILL BE PROPOSED

A Republican legislator says he’ll introduce immigration legislation based on Arizona's controversial law.

Rep. Don Pridemore of Harford says he is putting the final touches on a plan that would require people suspected of crimes to prove they are in the country legally.

Pridemore says the inaction of the Federal Government has prompted him to introduce the bill.

If approved, a suspected illegal immigrant could be detained for up to 48 hours to allow authorities a chance to investigate their status.

Wisconsin Ag Connection reports the Wisconsin policy will not likely be as strict as the Arizona law, which makes it a crime not to carry immigration papers.

He plans to introduce the measure in January. Media reports say that Governor-elect Scott Walker would likely sign the bill if it reached his desk.
