BOARD TWEAKS, APPROVES BUDGET

The Clark County Board of Supervisors made a couple changes before approving their 2011 budget Tuesday night.

The $56,968,958 spending plan will rely on a tax levy of $12.6-million—an increase of 3.4%. The mil rate will jump 6.5% to $7.21 per thousand dollars of property.

After a brief public hearing, the board turned down several amendments offered by Supervisor Duane Boon of Christie to cut the jail portion of the Sheriff’s Department budget to reduce the tax levy. Another failed amendment, offered by supervisor Al Bower, would have taken $769,000 out of the general fund to pay down the levy.

The board did approve a motion to add an additional $39,000 to the Economic Development Corporation budget. The extra money will be pulled from the general fund. The amendment passed on a vote of 18-11.
