New details are emerging about a string of break-ins that led to a fatal shooting near Melrose.

Aaron Powers, 23, is charged with shooting Terrance Stoen on October 16th. Court documents detail how Powers broke into a cabin, ate, showered and smoked a cigar in front of the television before sleeping overnight in a bed upstairs.

He also used materials in the home to modify a 20-gauge shotgun.

The next day, he used the gun to shoot through a glass patio door and kill Terrance Stoen in his living room. He then made oFf with Stoen's cell phone, laptop, checkbook, iPod Touch, keys and 2008 Dodge truck.

Authorities were able to track Powers after he used the stolen cell phone at a Juneau County park Oct. 21.
