UW EAU CLAIRE IS WIAC WOMEN'S GOLF CHAMPS

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire successfully defended its title at the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship held Oct. 8-10 at Bull’s Eye Country Club in Wisconsin Rapids. The Blugolds secured their league-high seventh title and fifth in the last seven seasons with a three-day total of 989 strokes. UW-Stevens Point finished second with 1004, UW-Whitewater third with 1021, UW-Platteville fourth with 1031, UW-Stout fifth with 1063, UW-Oshkosh sixth with 1109 and UW-River Falls seventh with 1118. Individually, UW-Eau Claire’s Sara Mattes claimed medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 242 strokes. Her victory marked the eighth consecutive year that a Blugold has earned the top spot at the conference meet. With the victory, UW-Eau Claire automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held May 10-13 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
