A Republican candidate for State Senate says he’s got cancer, but he’s staying in the race.

Ed Thompson is running against Kathleen Vinehout for the 31st District seat. He announced Monday that he’s been diagnosed with cancer. Thompson said doctors had “caught it early."

Thompson said he will continue the campaign during treatment.

The former two-term Tomah Mayor was initially being treated for a common intestinal ailment, when a spot was discovered on his pancreas. Doctors have told him the prognosis is good.
