North American Hydro has issued a Red Alert for their dam in Hatfield. That means all gates are open and the level of Lake Arbutus continues to rise.

According to data from the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the Black River at Neillsville was at 5' Wednesday night, but shot to almost 16' feet Thursday morning at 9 a.m. At 1 a.m. this morning, the river had reached 18.8-feet—just above the flood stage of 18-feet. Forecasters expect the river will continue to rise to near 20-feet later today.

Black River Falls has declared a state of emergency. Up to 80 homes are being evacuated in the Grove area near the river. The Red Cross has established a shelter at United Methodist Church.

At 5 a.m. (9/24/10) the Black River was at 60.77 feet in Black River Falls. Floodstage is 47 feet. The record is 61.2. Expecting to reach or exceed the record.
