It turns out the H1N1 flu virus wasn’t all that dangerous, after all.

According to a study by the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the typical seasonal flu had the same risk of causing serious complications as H1N1.

The pandemic H1N1 illness was expected to have more serious complications than the average flu.

According to the Marshfield NewsHerald, the study relied on tests of those infected with influenza in October and early November 2009, identified the type of flu, then compared the patients' occurrence of pneumonia or hospitalization within 30 days.
