ATTORNEY TO CHALLENGE STATE GUN LAW

A seemingly run of the mill Clark County court case became more interesting in light of a recent Supreme Court decision.

29-year-old Daniel Rueden of Spencer is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He was set to plead to the charge today, but instead, attorney William Poss told the judge he plans to challenge the constitutionality of Wisconsin’s law banning felons from possessing firearms for life.

A recent Supreme Court ruling was hailed as a victory for gun rights activists. It affirmed the 2nd amendment was meant to allow citizens to own guns in the interest of self-defense.

Poss says Wisconsin’s law, which bans even non-violent felons from owning firearms for life, could be “overly broad.”

Both sides will file briefs in the matter before the end of summer.
