PROPERTY TAXES ARE DUE!
Monday, August 1st, 2005 -- 11:53 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Monday is the deadline for property-owners to pay the 2nd-half of their property tax bills. Clark County treasurer Kathy Brugger says the number of people that file their property taxes in two installments is about the same as the number of people who file in one lump sum.

It will likely be a busy day in their office.

"We've got really, really heavy mail - like usual - we're expecting a considerable amount of over-the-counter," Brugger says. "We expect it to be qite busy yet today and tomorrow with the mail."

If the taxes aren’t hand-delivered or postmarked by today’s date, the property owner will face some pretty stiff penalties.

"Anything that's not postmarked or brought in today, the penalty and interest go back to February 1st, so it would be 10-percent of the unpaid balance," Brugger says.

The actual deadline for the second installment is July 31st, but seeing that date fell on Sunday this year, state statute says the deadline is extended.
