LACOUNT CHARGED IN BANK ROBBERY
Thursday, May 20th, 2010 -- 10:40 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
A Green Bay man accused of robbing a bank in Colby this week has been charged.
54-year-old Lawrence LaCount faces a charge of armed robbery with the threat of force after he allegedly held up Mid-Wisconsin Bank in Colby on Tuesday afternoon.
He could face fines of up to $100,000 and 40 years in prison.
The criminal complaint indicates LaCount was wearing a surgical mask when he approached a bank teller’s station. The teller described him as sounding “nervous” and said he spoke “softly but rapidly” demanding she put money into a garbage bag.
He kept his hand in his pocket at all times during the robbery. Authorities later found LaCount was in possession of a handgun.
LaCount made off with around $6,600 in cash, but was arrested a short time later in Marshfield.
The complaint indicates LaCount claims to be homeless. He also was extremely remorseful, repeatedly asking a deputy who transported him to jail to tell the bank teller he was sorry.
He’s scheduled to make an initial appearance this morning.
