BIG DAY FOR AREA VETS
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 -- 11:45 am

It’s a big day for some area veterans.

Nearly 100 World War II veterans from Northcentral Wisconsin boarded a plane this morning bound for Washington, D.C. to see the World War II Memorial and other sites. It’s called the "Never Forgotten Honor Flight".

We know of at least two area WWII vets on the plane: Bernard Walker of Neillsville and Robert Luchterhand of Granton.

Luchterhand, who stormed the beach at Normandy and was part of the Battle of the Bulge, told us earlier this month that has never been to Washington D.C. to see the World War II Memorial, and he’s really looking forward to it. The Never Forgotten Honor Flight serves a 19-county region that includes Clark, Marathon and Wood counties.
