NON-PROFIT HELPING AREA FAMILY

 A dedicated group of volunteers are helping remodel a home for a Neillsville family.
The home is located at 220 Oak Street.
The Hands Foundation is a non-profit group started by brothers Darrel and Chauncey Marrier from the Owen area. Basically, the group utilizes volunteer labor to fix up houses for those in need.
Their latest project if for the local family of a young man by the name of Jason Gasiorowski. He has a rare bone disease that forces him to use a wheelchair. His mother was recently diagnosed with the same ailment. Their home is not handicap-accessible.
"Bill Buettner from Pioneer Plumbing and Shannon Melvin (Wood Wright Construction) brought this family to our attention and told us a little about this family and this house," Darrel explains. "So, we jumped on."
Darrel and Chauncey have an up-and-coming band, Fragile, which has performed shows to raise money for the projects. All the money that goes to the Hands Foundation goes to materials.
"It's all volunteer. 100% of donations go to the project itself. All the labor is donated. If there are travel expenses, people pay their own way," he says.
They’ve been working on the home since February. They hope to be done by May. "It started as just a bathroom deal and we started discovering all these other things to do," Marrier explains.
In some areas the home has been stripped down to the studs.
"We did a lot of ripping and tearing out, now we're finally to the point that we can rebuild. It's basically just putting it back together."
A number of area businesses have helped with the project, including Pioneer Plumbing, Wood Wright Construction, Randy’s Electric, Sav-Rite, Russell’s, D & C Construction, Custom Heating and Cooling, ServiceMaster and Thrivent Financial for Lutheran’s.
Donations to the “Hands for Jason” project can be made at all local M & I Banks.
