STATE EXTENDS COVERAGE FOR WOLF VS. DOG ATTACKS
Friday, July 22nd, 2005 -- 8:37 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

The state will compensate bear hunters when wolves kill their hunting dogs -- even in areas at high risk for such attacks. The Department of Natural Resources pays up to 25-hundred dollars to owners of hunting dogs that are killed by gray wolves. But, if the attack happened within five-miles of a previous dog kill, the D-N-R didn't pay. The Natural Resources Board today scrapped that five-mile rule, but decided to keep the current cap of 25-hundred dollars. Hunters had argued that payment hadn't been increased in ten years.
