Area schools received a nice shot in the arm this week, as they received vouchers as part of a class action lawsuit settlement against Microsoft.

Vouchers worth about $80-million will help 800 low-income schools secure new technology.

In the case, plaintiffs claimed Microsoft had stifled competition and broken state antitrust laws by overcharging consumers for software and computers.

Locally, Granton Schools received $81,000, Greenwood received $129,467, Loyal received $103,500 and Neillsville received $321,800.
