TWO GRASSFIRES ON CTH 'H'
Monday, March 29th, 2010 -- 9:21 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

There were two grass fires within a few miles of each on CTH “H” yesterday, and fire officials are urging everyone to be extremely careful because of the dry conditions.

The first fire was located north of Granton between Romadka Avenue and Oak Grove Road.

Roger Nitschke of the Granton Fire Department says they were called out at around 6 p.m. last night. A fire started in the ditch. It burned about 10 acres of grass and woods.

The crew spent about 1-½ hours on the scene.

A few minutes later, the Chili-Fremont Fire Department was called to a grass fire. This one was caught earlier, and only burned about 400 yards of ditch and fence line.

It’s unclear how the two fires started.

Simon Fischer of the Chili-Fremont Fire Department is urging everyone in the area to think twice about burning anything. He says it’s extremely dry in the area, and even a cigarette butt thrown out a window could trigger a grass fire.
