GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES SMART GROWTH WILL STAY

In a move that was expected, Gov. Jim Doyle's announced this week that he would veto the Joint Finance Committee’s budget provision that would have rescinded the Smart Growth comprehensive planning program. Doyle announced he would restore $4 million in Republican-proposed Smart Growth budget cuts. Smart Growth has been a hot-button issues here in Clark County where the County Board voted down a resolution in May that would have ended the county’s involvement in the process.
