WOOD CO. WAITING FOR IRS RULING

An area county is still waiting to learn if they’ll be fined by the IRS.
According to the Marshfield NewsHerald, Wood County authorities still don't know if the IRS will make them pay a $49,450 fine for filing its 2007 payroll forms late.
The mistake came as the county’s payroll and benefits coordinator resigned near the end of 2007. It missed the deadline for 989 forms and was fined $50 each.
The county appealed, and the deadline for the IRS to respond is Friday.
