A 47-year-old Stanley man is facing some serious charges after allegedly beating his niece’s boyfriend and threatening to light him on fire.

Richard Clark pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of substantial battery, false imprisonment, strangulation and suffocation and manufacturing or delivering more than 1,000 grams of marijuana.

Clark allegedly attacked the 33-year-old man at a Greenwood apartment over the summer after the man called Clark’s family ‘crazy’. He then forced the man into a vehicle and drove to his family’s Greenwood-area farm where he got lighter fluid and threatened to burn him.

The alleged victim was able to escape into a nearby woods and call authorites.
