REPORT: STANLEY ESCAPEE A CONVICTED MURDER
Thursday, February 11th, 2010 -- 12:00 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

One of the two prisoners who walked away from the Stanley Prison last month was a convicted murderer.

State corrections officials have been tight-lipped about the incident, but the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports today that one of the escapees was a gang member and convicted murderer.

Columnist Dan Bice reports that Jimmy Baldwin was one of two inmates who forged prison release documents and made his way to Milwaukee before being caught on Jan. 28.

Baldwin was convicted in 1995 of first-degree reckless homicide while armed and four counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. He was sentenced to 73 years behind bars.

It’s unclear how long he was on the lam before he was nabbed by authorities and detained at the state's Secure Detention Facility downtown.

An investigation into the escape continues.
