TWO WALK AWAY FROM STANLEY PRISON
Monday, February 8th, 2010 -- 10:20 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has an interesting story about a prison escape in our area that seems entirely too easy. It happened at the Stanley Correctional Institution.
Last month two inmates simply walked out of the medium-security prison using fake prison release records. Stanley staffers processed the paperwork and let the two go. One of those who escaped the state-run facility had as much as 50 years remaining on his sentence.
The article says State Department of Corrections officials are being tight-lipped about the embarrassing incident. The two escapees since have been caught and are in custody.
The prison has about 1,500 inmates and nearly 400 state workers.
