FUTURE OF FAIRGROUNDS DISCUSSED

What to do with the Clark County Fairgrounds.

The county-owned property is managed by the Forestry and Parks Department. It costs the county around $100,000 to maintain the facility, but only takes in a little over $20,000 in revenue.

On Tuesday, the Forestry and Parks Committee, Ag & Extension Committee and Fair Liaison Committees met at the courthouse.

County Board Chairman Wayne Hendrickson is on the Fair Board. He says many ideas have been floated in the past, including selling—or even giving away—the property. He doesn’t think that will happen.

Forestry and Parks has implemented a couple of cost-saving strategies this year, including closing the Fairgrounds during the winter months, though it’s unclear exactly how much that could save.

The groups plan to meet again in the near future.
