SALES TAX COLLECTIONS DOWN IN JACKSON CO.

While Clark County’s return on their half-percent sales tax exceeded their expectations, a neighboring county wasn’t as lucky.
In fact, Jackson County saw one of the biggest dips in sales tax collections in 2009.
According to the Jackson County Chronicle, of the 61 counties that have the optional tax, Jackson County ranked 14th highest in the percentage of lost sales tax from 2008 to 2009.
The county saw a 9.85% decrease in locally generated sales tax last year, a loss of just over a $101,000 and almost $72,000 off from what it budgeted.
Clark County only budgeted to receive $785,000 through the tax, but collected over $1.1-million. That’s about 40% more than projected.
