On Wednesday, January 6 we talked to Bill Elmhorst.

Mr. Elmhorst manages the Old Hotel building in downtown Neillsville. The building has 17 apartment units.

Mr. Elmhorst told us he had offered Gary Thiede an apartment. Mr. Thiede, 40, was recently released from prison after serving a sentence for murder, sexual assault and child enticement for immoral purposes.

During our conversation, I asked if Elmhorst knew Mr. Thiede had already been released from prison in 2005, only to re-offend while living in Madison.

After following up on that information, Mr. Elmhorst called me back and said he changed his mind and would no longer offer the apartment to Mr. Thiede.

Mr. Elmhorst called back around 15 minutes after the initial story ran.

Therefore, we won't be posting the initial story, which detailed why Mr. Elmhorst decided to offer the apartment to Mr. Thiede.
