HALF-PERCENT TAX SURPASSES GOAL
Tuesday, January 5th, 2010 -- 12:08 pm Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
The first year of Clark County’s half-percent sales tax exceeded expectations, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
The County only budgeted to receive $785,000 through the tax, but collected over $1.1-million. That’s about 40% more than projected.
A spreadsheet from the county indicates October was the biggest month for the tax. The county made over $133,000 off the tax in that month alone.
County Finance Manager Terri Domaszek speculates that’s due to the Cash for Clunkers program.
The excess $315,000 goes into general fund and more than covers the $240,000 dip in interest income in 2009 compared to 2008.
