2009 was a tough year for hunters, but, if it’s any consolation, Clark County hunters once again reigned supreme.

For the 2nd year in a row, Clark County hunters bagged the most bucks and does during the 9-day gun-deer season, that wrapped up on Sunday.

According to the DNR preliminary numbers, 6,547 deer were harvested in Clark County—the most in any of the state’s 72 counties.

Polk County had the 2nd largest harvest with 6,451 deer.

While still tops in the state, Clark County hunters took 31% fewer deer this year than last.

Statewide, hunters harvested 29-percent fewer whitetail deer.
