SHOPPING SEASON UPON US

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, we can focus all of our attention on Christmas.

One of the many nice things about living in a small town: Nobody is going to trample you during Black Friday shopping excursions.

Pamida in Neillsville was busy Friday morning, but there were no fights breaking out in the toy department.

"It's been picking up," noted Angel Buchholz, who said their store opened at 6 a.m.

To handle the rush, Pamida had more employees on hand. Buccholz says their corporate headquarters expect this shopping season to be better than last.

"We're hoping it's going to be busier," she says.

The National Retail Foundation predicts that holiday sales will fall this year by 1%, after declining 3.4% last year.

And, while it's more work, retailers say the crowds help get them in the holiday spirit.

"It is fun. I do like seeing everyone out. A lot of people do come to shop more," Buchholz says.
