NEW UNEMPLOYMENT FIGURES

Unemployment rates in state metropolitan areas improved last month. At the same time, Clark County remained right in the middle of Wisconsin’s 72 counties.
The Department of Workforce Development says unemployment decreased in 10 of the state's 12 metropolitan areas from September to October.
The Janesville area had the highest rate at 10.9 percent. The Madison area had the lowest at 5.5 percent.
Clark County’s unemployment rate was 7.6%, down from 8.3% in September. That is the 36th highest rate in the state.
Wood County ranked 40th with a rate of 7.4%; Jackson County ranked 45th with a rate of 7.2% and Marathon County ranked 34th with a rate of 7.7%.
