The 37th Annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Volleyball State Championships will take place Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 5-7, at the Resch Center in Green Bay

ABOUT THE DIVISION 1 FIELD: Muskego is making its second straight appearance at State and its fifth in the last six years. D.C. Everest will embark on its eighth appearance at State and its third in a row. The Evergreens gained a tournament berth with a five-game victory over Eau Claire North in the sectional final hosted by Chippewa Falls. Kaukauna is also making its eighth overall appearance in the tournament and its third in the last five years. Middleton qualifies for the State Tournament for the fifth time and for the second consecutive season. The Cardinals fell in the quarterfinals last year. Divine Savior Holy Angels is making its fourth overall appearance and its first since 2004. Burlington qualifies for the first time since its only other appearance in 1997. Fond du Lac is also making its second appearance overall. The Cardinals’ first experience came back in 1994. Nicolet is the third team in the field with only one other prior experience in the State Tournament. That appearance came back in 1981.

ABOUT THE DIVISION 2 FIELD: Last year’s runner-up Catholic Memorial makes its fourth overall appearance. The Crusaders won the Division 2 championship in 2006. Xavier is making its first appearance since the second of two straight appearances resulted in a runner-up finish in 2006. It’s the fourth time the Hawks have qualified for State overall. . Both Sauk Prairie and Tomahawk are making their first appearances in the State Tournament.

ABOUT THE DIVISION 3 FIELD: Last year’s runner-up Grantsburg is back in the tournament for the 10th time overall. Cuba City also makes its 10th appearance and its first since winning the title two years ago. Laconia is making its seventh State appearance and its first since 2006. The Spartans won the championship in 1998 after finishing runner-up the year before. Auburndale will experience the State Tournament for the first time following its four-game victory over Roncalli in the Stevens Point Sectional final.

ABOUT THE DIVISION 4 FIELD: Newman Catholic is making its third appearance at State and its second in a row. The Cardinals appeared last season in Division 3. This year, they move down a division. They have fallen in the semifinals in each of its two previous appearances. Highland is also making its third overall appearance. The Cardinals haven’t qualified since 1994, which followed its first-ever appearance in 1992. McDonell Central and Manitowoc Lutheran are making their first appearances in the State Tournament. The Macks gained their initial entry into the tourney with a three-game sweep over Rib Lake in the Augusta Sectional final. The Lancers’ first experience is being celebrated after defeating three-time defending champion Catholic Central in the Lake Country Lutheran Sectional final.
