GREENWOOD DISCUSSES SPORTS CO-OPS

The Greenwood School Board held a special public meeting last night to discuss possible sports co-ops.

Greenwood coaches addressed the board as only about 8 members of the public attended.

Greenwood’s administration has been in contact with Loyal and Granton about cooperative possibilities.

The consensus among the coaches was the board should move very slowly with any co-op agreements. According to superintendent Dave Westhoff, most of the coaches had concerns about the distance between Greenwood and Granton and how travel time would affect practices and games.

Granton has had difficulty fielding girls’ basketball and softball teams, and doesn’t have a football program. Greenwood’s football program suffered this year, and some in the community have expressed concerned that too many underclassmen had to play varsity.

The Loyal School Board has a special meeting scheduled on the topic next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The Granton School Board may set a public meeting date of their own when they meet next Monday.
