A Wisconsin congressman was able to secure money for a multimillion-dollar agriculture research facility in Marshfield in the latest ag appropriations bill.

The bill still needs to pass the Senate, but U.S. Rep. Dave Obey of Wausau, the senior Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, requested and received over $3-million for the construction of the Marshfield Nutrient Management Laboratory.

The laboratory will be part of the University of Wisconsin's Agricultural Research Station in Marshfield.

As a result of the new facility, the research station’s workforce will nearly double. The entire project will cost $16-million. The institute will be geared to help the dairy producers and environment.
