A Loyal man accused of setting fire to his girlfriend’s house is scheduled to be back in court this afternoon.

According to the criminal complaint, Timothy Olson, 46, set fire to the home on USH 10, just outside the Granton village limits to get insurance money that would allow the couple to move into together.

He told investigators he manipulated some wires in an outlet and dumped lighter fluid on it. Then, he lit the fluid with a lighter. Authorities believe he messed up the wiring in a failed attempt to make the blaze look accidental.

Olson is free on a $5,000 signature bond. Arson carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.

His initial appearance is Wednesday afternoon at 3:20 p.m.
