NEILLSVILLE 8TH GRADE GIRLS CHAMPIONS OF MINNESOTA-WISCONSIN BASKETBALL CHALLENGE

The Neillsville 8th grade girls basketball team competed in the first "Minnesota-Wisconsin Challenge" this past weekend in Chippewa Falls and took home first place. The top 12 teams from the state of Wisconsin and the top 12 from Minnesota were invited to the two-day event. Neillsville won all their pool play games and grabbed the number 2 seed in the championship bracket on Sunday. They first beat a team from Andover, MN in overtime which put Neillsville in the semi-finals. In the semi's, Neillsville was matched up against 3 teams from Milwaukee area suburbs: Oak Creek, Sussex Hamilton and Kettle Moraine. Neillsville beat Kettle Moraine in the semi-finals and then beat Sussex Hamilton in the championship game 30-21. Congratulations to the Neillsville girls and their coaches. Team members include: Molly Attoe, Wendy Barth, Sierra Bethea, Katelyn Crothers, Taylor Gleisner, Candie Hainz, Sami Larrabee, Jenny Lindner, Jillayne Opelt, Faith Schmidt and Bekkah Zickert. Coaches were Judy Lindner and Missy Stockheimer. The Great Northwest League Championship Tournament is coming in early November with the top 32 teams out of 154 making up the tournament.
