H1N1 NEXT STEP: SCHOOL KIDS

The Clark County Department of Public Health is still waiting for another shipment of H1N1 vaccines.

They received their initial shipment last week. Those vaccines were used to protect frontline health care workers.

Megan Reis, Interim Health Officer for Clark County, says the next shipment will be administered to county students.

"We plan on going into all the public and parochial schools in the county," she explains. "We've already sent home permissions. It's just a matter of getting those vaccines on time."

The flu shots won’t be mandatory for students, but the Health Department is strongly recommending kids get them.

Unfortunately, the production and distribution of the vaccine hasn’t gone as smoothly as hoped. It’s unclear when the next shipments of the vaccine will arrive.

"They're supposed to be shipping week by week," she says.

After willing students are vaccinated, the county will offer vaccines to the general public.
