NEILLSVILLE BUDGET GETS VOTE NEXT MONTH
Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 -- 11:30 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

The city of Neillsville’s budget will be going up slightly next year, but the amount of money collected from local property owners will remain the same.

The city’s finance committee is proposing a budget of $3.2-million; that’s up about 1.5% from the proposed budget for 2009.

The tax levy will actually drop about three-tenths of one percent to just over $1-million.

City Clerk/Treasurer Rex Roehl says city departments were directed to cut 5% of their budgets, excluding wages and benefits.

The largest spending increases in the budget are the results of wage increases, a 7% jump in insurance and a 356% increase in “tipping fees.” That increase prompted Veolia, the city’s garbage hauler, to increase their fees to the city by about $8,500.

The budget hearing will be November 10th at City Hall.
