U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D-La Crosse) will not run for governor in 2010.

Kind had traveled across Wisconsin in recent weeks meeting with Democratic party leaders and others to discuss a potential run.

He says he wants to return to Congress to work on health care reform.

“My job is to stay focused on the health care reform that’s pending so that we deliver affordable, quality, accessible health care for all Wisconsin families,” he said during a conference call with reporters. “I’ve got a primary responsibility to do this job well.”

Kind said, with his announcement, he expected many Democrats to throw their support behind a possible run by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.
