PUPPY MILL BILL WILL GET HEARING

A bill aimed at large-scale commercial dog breeders will get a hearing Wednesday. It could have a big impact on Clark County.

According to WQOW-TV, for the past year Representative Jeff Smith and Senator Pat Kreitlow have been working on a bill that adds legitimacy to dog breeding, and will help put an end to the growing problem of puppy mills in the state.

Right now Cark County has the largest puppy mill problem, with 52 mills operating, followed by Chippewa County. One farm alone in Clark County has 300 adult dogs it uses for breeding.

The bill would call for any person/operation that sells more than 25 dogs a year to become licensed. The license would require breeders to provide adequate food water, veterinary care, shelter and exercise.
