"PERSON OF INTEREST" IN MONROE COUNTY DOUBLE HOMICIDE ARRESTED IN NEILLSVILLE

Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A “person of interest” in a Monroe County double-homicide was apprehended in Neillsville this week. Acting on a 3rd-degree sexual assault warrant from Monroe County, Clark County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Larry Schaffer, 36, on Sunday, May 26th.

Now, Monroe County authorities say he may have been involved in the unsolved 2002 slayings of Connie DeGeorge and Cale Kvistad.

Larry Schaffer, formerly of Sparta, most recently lived in an apartment at 549 Hewett Street, Neillsville.

District Attorney Dan Cary said at a hearing last week that Schaffer was a “person of substantial interest” in the unsolved murder and that detectives received information from witnesses that Mr. Schaffer was directly involved in the Kvistad-DeGeorge homicide.

Their remains were discovered in a wooded area near Ft. McCoy last December after they went missing in March of 2002.

Clark County Sheriff’s Department officials tell WCCN that Schaffer was arrested without incident on Sunday.

He has a lengthy criminal record, including charges of disorderly conduct and retail theft brought by the city of Neillsville.

Officials have scheduled a Friday afternoon press conference on the matter.
