NEILLSVILLE COMMISSIONS DISCUSS SUBDIVISIONS
Thursday, June 2nd, 2005 -- 11:43 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
The Neillsville Planning and Economic Development Commissions held a joint meeting last night. The City is addressing some outdated ordinances pertaining to subdivisions, and what the city can do to help developers. The benefits of a residential subdivision – and its tax base – are obvious, but the commissions discussed how best to entice developers without “giving away the farm”. The consensus was not to offer handouts, but offer help to developers by allowing them to pay for expensive infrastructure through special assessments. The commissions directed city attorney Bonnie Wacsmuth to draft some ordinance revisions to be voted on a future meeting. The city has been in discussions with the owners of the former Sunburst Youth Homes property. They’d like to develop a residential subdivision, but would like the city’s help.
