DOYLE WON'T SEEK 3RD TERM

Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle announced he’ll not seek a third term next year.

At a press conference at a school in Madison, the Democrat said he made the decision because he believes Governors should limit themselves to two terms.

He said he believes new blood will be good.

He also said he won’t pull a “Brett Favre,” although he believed he’ll regret the decision. Doyle said he would have liked to wait a few months to make up his mind, but realizes it wouldn’t be fair to possible candidates.

He’ll serve out the remainder of his term.

He noted he was already the longest serving Democrat governor, and will be the 2nd longest serving governor by the end of his term.

Doyle's decision not to run again blows the 2010 governor's race wide open.

A number of Democrats are expected to consider running, including U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.
