SPENDING DOWN, LEVY UP IN GRANTON

Granton Schools’ overall budget will decrease by just over $32,000, but the tax levy will still go up.

As we’ve reported, the state has cut back on public school aid this year, and the cost is being passed on to taxpayers.

To make up for the lost state aid, Granton’s levy is projected to increase 8.7% to $1-million.

It’s expected most—if not all—school districts in the state will be forced to raise their property taxes.

Experts expect the average increase will be above 10%.
