We’re getting our first glimpse at what the state budget will mean to local property taxpayers.

The Neillsville School Board has set their Annual Meeting for August 24th at 8 p.m.

Tuesday, they released their proposed budget numbers; they’re not pretty.

Under the plan, the local tax levy will jump 11%; that’s on top of a 7.6% increase in last year’s budget.

Overall spending will climb about 3.5% to $14.2-million.

These numbers are preliminary, but represent the "best guess" of district administration.

UPDATE: We talked to district admin. John Gaier Wednesday. We'll have his thoughts Thursday.
