GREENWOOD'S SEARCH FOR SUPERINTENDENT CONTINUES

The Greenwood School Board continues their search for a new superintendent.

Board President Bill Herr says they’ve received six applications so far, as they search for a replacement for Thomas Nykl. The board and Nykl agreed to part ways at the end of his contract.

This is the time of year that school boards work on their budgets…

"I think we'll be o.k. with that," Herr says. "We have two people from the area that applied. They're very familiar with the circumstances in central Wisconsin. So, I think, if one of those would be selected, they would be very aware of the circumstances in this area."

The other applicants have "very good experience, also," Herr notes.

Nykl was a 60% administrator. The board may look to increase that to 80%, so the new administrator will be in the office more, Herr says.

Whoever gets the job will have their work cutout for them. The district is operating with a $500,000 revenue cap exemption referendum that will expire next year.

"We are looking at options. Probably, certainly going to have to ask taxpayers to extend that at the same amount," Herr explains.

He anticipates the referendum question will go to voters in the Spring.

The board will discuss the superintendent applications at their meeting next Monday, but probably won’t make a hiring decision, Herr says.
