NEILLSVILLE GIRLS BB IN SEMI-FINALS AT WAUSAU

One of the largest and most prestigious girls basketball tournaments in the state is going on this weekend in Wausau. It’s the 2009 Girls High School Elite Invitational Tournament , put on by the Great Northwest Basketball League. 89 teams competed in the event, with all but a few of those teams coming from Wisconsin. Neillsville, coached by Michael Gaier, is competing in the Division 3 field where they finished 3-1 in pool play so they were seeded 4th in the round of 16 and beat Boyceville 48-39 yesterday afternoon. Neillsville also beat Caledonia, MN in a quarterfinal game last evening 47-37 to make it to the semi-finals this morning where they will play Shoreland Lutheran at 9:20, a team they lost by 15 to in their first game on Friday. Also in the semi-finals are Oostburg and Osseo-Fairchild. . Winners will play in the championship this afternoon while the losers will play in the third place game, also this afternoon. Owen-Withee and Marshfield Columbus are playing games this morning in the Consolation Semi-finals in Division 4 and Thorp is playing a couple of games today in the Friendship Bracket in Division 4.
