SUDER, KREITLOW BILL HELPS FIRE CREWS
Wednesday, July 1st, 2009 -- 12:31 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Rep. Scott Suder (R-Abbotsford) and State Sen. Pat Kreitlow (D-Chippewa Falls) are touting the passage of their bill dropping a DNR stipulation concerning local fire departments’ live-burn exercises.

The bill will allow departments to dispose of ash on-site – as they would with a real fire – instead of having to haul it to a landfill as currently required.

Suder says the DNR mandate was a costly one. He had heard from local fire officials who said the live-burn exercises provided invaluable experience, but the outdated stipulation made it increasingly difficult, if not impossible, to find properties equipped to conduct training exercises due to the added cost of removing the ash
