FAMILY SPREADS WORD ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH

Mental health problems can go undetected until it’s too late.
Sara Blume of Dorchester knows that all too well.
Her brother, Casey, took his own life when he was only 25 years old.
"He was full of life. Never could have imagined he would take his own life," says Sara.
Casey was a typical guy: he loved softball, golf and racing. He took his life in a friend’s garage after a softball tournament 3 years ago last week.
"Casey and I were very close. If Casey wouldn't have left a note and some of the things that were in his note, I wouldn't have believed he did that," Blume says, "I would have thought to this day that someone did it to him."
The family has started the ‘Casey Lee Blume Scholarship and Memorial Foundation” to raise awareness of mental health issues.
The message is clear for those who are suffering from suicidal thoughts: seek help. "Absolutely tell somebody, talk to somebody. There are people you can call to get help. Don't do this to your families," she urges.
Casey’s family is helping the Clark County Public Health Department sponsor the 1st annual “Mental Health Awareness Night.”
