Residents of 17 western Wisconsin counties have a new option for health care.

It's called Cooperative Health Choices of Western Wisconsin.

CHCWW is the second health care purchasing pool in the state. It allows small businesses, the self-employed and other organizations to leverage better rates for coverage.

Over 20,000 school districts, towns, villages, rural utilities and labor organizations might be eligible, according to Bill Rubin, who is overseeing the pool.

The 17 counties included in the cooperative are Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Rusk, Price, St. Croix, Sawyer and Washburn.
